Hygen Energy is proud to lead the Lighter Than Aire Consortium – a group of 13 UK hydrogen technology companies – in a major funding bid to the Clean Hydrogen Partnership’s Hydrogen Valleys competition.

If successful, the €20m grant would unlock £250m of capital investment across the Aire-Humber corridor, spanning the Leeds-Bradford region to the Humber industrial cluster.

Up to 450 hydrogen assets would be deployed – from buses and trucks to off-grid generators and construction equipment.

Hydrogen supply would come from electrolysers (including the Bradford Low-Carbon Hydrogen project, a Hygen Energy and N-Gen joint venture), backed by 5 hydrogen refuelling stations, 60 bowsers, and 15 tube trailers.

“This is a dynamic group of hydrogen technology companies who are laser-focused on creating the infrastructure for projects like these to succeed,” said Charles Portwain, CFO of Hygen Energy.

The bid is a key building block in Project HySpeed – our national hydrogen programme aiming to deliver 1GW of production, £6.5bn investment, and 24,000 UK jobs by 2030.

Consortium partners in Project HySpeed include: Centrica, ERM, GeoPura, HyEnergy Consultancy Limited, Hygen Energy, HyKit, Intelligent Energy, N-Gen UK, Novuna, Ryze Power, Toyota (GB) plc, Wrightbus, JCB and Zeti.
